Oil to Gas conversion delivers 18% carbon saving for Eurovia
One of the UK’s major asphalt suppliers, Eurovia Roadstone, was previously using oil to power its Ipswich production plant. Flogas has converted the plant from oil to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), saving the company an estimated 502 tonnes of carbon each year.
As well as becoming cleaner and greener in its operations, the move has also allowed Eurovia Roadstone to enhance efficiencies.

The Suffolk plant is responsible for producing a substantial 100,000 tonnes of asphalt each year, all of which goes into strengthening and improving regional highways. Operating without access to the mains gas grid, it was previously relying on a mixture of processed fuel oil (PFO) and gas oil to power its processes.
In a bid to mitigate its impact on the environment, meet increasingly stringent carbon reduction targets and boost efficiency levels, the production company decided to switch to LPG.

“LPG was an excellent solution for us. Not only is it reliable, which is essential for asphalt production, but it’s so much cleaner than oil. Because of this, since switching we’ve been able to cut our carbon footprint by an estimated 18% whilst significantly reducing other pollutants like sulphur oxide (SOx), nitrous oxide (NOx) and particulate matter (PM). The switchover process was seamless too. Flogas managed everything from start to finish and ensured there was minimal production downtime.”
Flogas provided a full turnkey solution for Eurovia Roadstone and designed a bespoke system to match their fuel requirements. The expert team managed the whole process from initial consultation through to design, installation and now on-going support, with a dedicated account manager to manage any day-to-day queries. They installed six above-ground 2-tonne liquid pump tanks, each fitted with telemetry systems. These allow Flogas to remotely monitor gas usage and automatically arrange delivery, so tanks are always kept topped up.

Not only this, but now that rebated fuel duty is under government consultation, those still relying on oil could be faced with increased costs.
